LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM/ Despite the US and Japan having the highest economic exposure to natural hazards, it is the emerging economies of China, India, Philippines and Indonesia, which pose the most risk to investors due to a lack of capacity to combat the impacts of a major disaster.

These countries are not only at ‘high’ and ‘extreme risk’ from economic exposure to natural hazards, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, floods and drought, they also lack the resilience to mitigate the disruption a major event would have on their societies and economies.

DUBLIN, IRELAND/ Renewable energy and energy storage group, Gaelectric, and XEMC VWEC from China, have signed contracts to co-develop three Irish wind farms.

The Chinese agreed to examine the co-development of Gaelectric's pipeline of wind energy projects in Ireland.

The investment will add state-of-the-art, environment-friendly energy production and reinforced, extended and efficient electricity transmission and distribution networks throughout the country.

LANSING, MICHIGAN/ The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced more than $76 million in new investments across the country that will redevelop contaminated properties, boost local economies and help create jobs while protecting public health.

EPA’sbrownfields grants are used to assess and clean up abandoned industrial and commercial properties like deserted gas stations or closed smelters. There are an estimated 450,000 abandoned and contaminated waste sites in America.
